Sorry about this, but I just don't get him. He's from the YELLING school of acting. I just finished Serpico, one of his older movies. I won't watch that one again. Think of Scent of a Woman - he just yelled, right? What am I missing with this guy? Think of his most famous lines? Was he yelling?
I've watched a lot of his movies, and usually I'm underwhelmed or annoyed. What am I missing?
You may be too young to remember that, back in the day, Al Pacino was somewhat of a babe. I always had him mixed up in my mind with De Niro until I saw them side-by-side in Heat. At least De Niro has a range from scary to sympathetic to funny. Pacino, on the other hand, as you had the courage to say, is pretty much just loud.
ReplyDeleteDe Niro definitely has range! The best part of Godfather was watching De Niro play a fully nuanced character.
ReplyDeleteI have watched many of Pacino's roles as a babe, but I'm not impressed. There are a lot of hot guys out there, and if I want a moody actor, Brando beats Pacino every time. And Pacino does that weird hunch his back/ stick his hear forward thing. It's distracting.
